There are other gyms more worthy of your hard earned money; gyms where owners talk to clients, coaches communicate, and children who show a passion for the sport are supported and scaffolded when needed (I actually witnessed negative reinforment -old school mentality). I have experience with Interstate, Breystans, Wilkey's and Reading Gymnastics. I would recommend any of these gyms first when you are searching for one.
Vasko and Rita are simply unprofessional in the way they handled my family, as their client. The gym failed my daughter by investing over 2 years on her then in the end not being able to get her up to their standards (although they are not able to express what those standards are) and not being able to express why. I was ignored like as if I was a pest.
Good place for gymnastics
My child was on the competitive track from hotshots to JO preteam. I never received feedback to know that my daughter would not make team by the end of the program. 3 days before teams are finalized at every gym I received a call from Vasko saying that my daughter should go on rec or xcel. He was not my child's coach. He could not tell me why she didn't make team. I paid thousands of dollars to this gym over for over 2 years including team camps that cost the price of a month's tuition in one week yet they would not tell me why she didn't make it, her coach never contacted me, and my two emails asking Vasko for a list of skills she lacked that kept her from jo level 3 went unanswered.
Had I received any negative feedback about my child's skills at YJ throughout the past 2 years, I would have gotten my child extra gym time, private sessions, or stopped paying for the expensive price of a preteam class in exchange for a less expensive one long ago. But there was zero communication either written or verbal. But they have no problem contacting clients about monthly payments so I know they have working phones and email.
My favorite place
With no verbal or written evidence of why a child doesn't get selected for a team after being in the program for over 2 years, makes it apparent that the method of selecting athletes is subjective. To prove it, and to heal my daughter's broken heart of getting downgraded to rec after learning technical skills, I had her try out at other gyms. Two accepted her for JO level 3 and one for level 2. Another gym didn't have other girls for level 3. None of these gyms thought she'd fit in on their rec or xcel team, which is a compliment to the training she received at YJ. Other gyms were able to tell me exactly what she needed to work on to reach her goals. The evaluations ranged from 30min to 4 hours- for free- but the gym I was a paying client at would not give me any feedback.
By Yellow Jackets blatantly ignoring my request to find out what my daughter was lacking to keep her off of level 3 I was not treated like a paying client. I was treated like a crazy person who paid them thousands of dollars only to be ignored about why she didn't make their team. I just wanted to know what skills she lacked or if she lacked flexibility and strength..whatever the reason, my daughter and I deserved to know. This review is not about not making a team...it is about this gym's poor handling of a paying client and their lack of communication.
Beware: Unprofessional management and preteam coach is not proactive in giving parents feedback.
